As you all may be aware the current situation between the UK and Spain regarding driving licenses has been a stressful concern for many, fortunately various sources have been able to confirm however that the UK and Spanish governments have come to an agreement and, they we will soon be able to exchange your UK driving license for a Spanish license.

If you missed out registering your intent prior to the Brexit cut-off date or have moved to Spain since, you have a grace period of 6 months in which to exchange your license.  If you have recently become resident, you have 6 months from the date of obtaining your residency to complete this exchange.

If you are non-resident, you can continue to drive using your UK driving license but remember that you are bound by the 90 days in any rolling 180-day period for stays in Spain.  An International Driving Permit is not required although a number of car hire companies still request it.  It is suggested that you check with your hire company before arriving in Spain.

The agreement is already set but the procedures are not yet clear as we are waiting for instructions. We hope to put out more information as we receive it.
